A student desirous of obtaining an M.A. Communication degree has to complete four semesters of study. The student must earn a minimum of 16 credits every semester and a total of 64 credits over four semesters, in order to qualify for the award of the degree. Please see below for detailed course information. Respective course credits are listed in the third column.
During Semester I, all modules are mandatory for all students. After Semester I, having had an introduction to the different career streams, students can make a decision regarding which career streams they would like to specialize in. They have to choose a minimum of two career streams, subject to approval by the faculty council.
Subjects listed in #1 rows are CORE modules common to all career streams. Subjects listed in #2 rows are CORE modules common to all journalism streams. Subjects listed in other rows are meant to equip the student with skills to pursue different career streams as indicated below -

Students aspiring to obtain the PG Diploma should acquire 32 credits in total through the study of subjects indicated below.
The P.G.D.J. is a one-year postgraduate diploma in print and broadcast journalism. This also provides students an opportunity to make a lateral entry into our M.A. (Communication) program in the second year.
Curriculum
The Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism (P. G. D. J.) is a one year full time programme. The Curricula and Syllabi is similar to that offered in the first year of the MA Communication programme. A provision for lateral entry to the MA Communication Programme is allowed for students who possess PG Diploma in Journalism/ Communication along with a minimum of two years of relevant post PG Diploma experience.Sl. M.A. in Communication & P.G. Diploma in Journalism (P.G.D.J.) |
A pass in bachelor's degree (10+2+3 system) in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities with an aggregate 50% marks. Candidate from the foreign universities should obtain an Equivalence Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. Visit www.aiuweb.org (link is external), for details. Candidates with appropriate industry experience will have an added advantage.
Admission Process: All candidates are required to appear for the CAPTEST conducted by Amrita University. Selection is based on performance in Communication Aptitude Test -
Admission Procedure : Based on performance in the qualifying examination, personal interview, Group Discussion and industry experience. |
Ph.D. in Communication | The applicant should possess a Master’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized University / Institution. Applicants should show evidence of strong academic record. Excellent test scores on standardized graduate aptitude tests such as GATE or GRE, and publications in recognized conferences and journals are examples of such evidence. |

Instructions for Filling up the Application Form
- Multiple applications submitted by a candidate will be rejected.
- If payment is not done, the application will be treated as incomplete and rejected without any notice.
- Change in the application form data is not allowed after the submission.
- Only students who produce original mark sheets for verification will be allowed to appear in the entrance test.
- For special cases, a SKYPE evaluation process can be arranged, subject to the discretion of the department. In such cases, candidate is advised to attach a request letter (mentioning their SKYPE ID) to the admissions coordinator, along with the 6 items mentioned in the Submission Check List.
